Why Are You Here?

This sermon  is a testimony from a 4th generation Adventist who bounced in and out of the church's "good Adventist" checklist.

Trying to live the lifestyle and be the good Adventist, Dave found his struggle too much and he gave up on God and the church to chase after the world.

While in the church his heart longed for the world, but while he was in the world, his heart longed to be in the church!  Being re-baptized four times this yo-yo experience left Dave frustrated with religion.

Even though Dave gave up on God, God never gave up on him.  So, God took Dave over two thousand miles away from his friends and family and there, God introduced him to a stranger that worked 75ft from his front door, and she gave him a book that turned his world right-side-up.

After reading the book he contacted the publishers to obtain more copies, surprised, they informed him that the book was about to be printed and it hadn't been printed before!  Dave found Jesus within those pages and learned that we must not give up on God or on the church, but rather, we need to give up on ourselves, our own efforts, and allow Jesus to do in us, what we could never do.

"The Father's presence encircled Christ, and nothing befell Him but that which infinite love permitted for the blessing of the world. Here was His source of comfort, and it is for us. He who is imbued with the Spirit of Christ abides in Christ. The blow that is aimed at him falls upon the Saviour, who surrounds him with His presence. Whatever comes to him comes from Christ. He has no need to resist evil, for Christ is his defense. Nothing can touch him except by our Lord's permission, and 'all things' that are permitted 'work together for good to them that love God.' Romans 8:28"

Frank B. Phillips served the church he loved for over 45 years, including ten years as a conference youth leader, five years as the personnel director of an acute care hospital, and sixteen years pastoring churches in Washington and Oregon.  After his official retirement he spent the next ten years conducting revival meetings with the help of his wife and constant companion, Dorothy.  The Phillips had two children, Roland and Alice.  Along the way, he was given an honorary master's degree by Andrews University for his Biblical scholarship.  Frank and Dorothy were deeply loved by multitudes who were profoundly blessed by their ministry. He was born in 1914; he died abiding in Jesus in 1994.
